As we think about our upcoming Vocabulary Monday, tell me what is your favorite word RIGHT NOW? Why is it your faovorite word and how often do you use it?

My favorite word right now is mellow. I value its versatility, as it describes unwinding after a long day, maintaining composure under stress, and projecting a pleasant, easygoing attitude. I use it often with friends when we're together, or as a personal cue to seek simplicity and not overthink things. It's my favorite because it serves as a prompt for tranquility, preventing minor issues from becoming major hurdles. Embracing this serene mindset genuinely makes for a much more enjoyable life experience. Summary: Today in class we worked on our power point presentation.  Reflection: I learned more about how I can reflect on my childhood.

In “Birches,” Robert Frost celebrates imagination as a way to escape life’s difficulties and reconnect with innocence. The speaker wishes to “get away from earth awhile” but also understands that he must eventually return to reality. Think about the role of imagination in your own life. How does imagination help you cope with challenges, boredom, or stress?

My imagination serves as a powerful coping mechanism for dealing with both stress and boredom, offering a temporary escape from reality. When life feels overwhelming, I often resort to daydreaming about exciting activities or serene, faraway places. This mental retreat helps me to briefly set aside my troubles and cultivate a sense of calmness. Furthermore, by envisioning a positive future, I can use my imagination to build feelings of hope. While I must eventually return to real-life demands, this imaginative practice makes difficult situations feel significantly easier to manage. Summary: Today in class we looked over and annotated a poem by Robert Frost Reflection: I learned how to annotate poems better.

After reading “Out, Out—” by Robert Frost, reflect on a time when you faced a dangerous or high-pressure situation that demanded your complete focus. What made the situation risky, and how did your concentration affect the outcome?

I faced a high-pressure situation that demanded my complete focus while pitching the final inning of a close baseball game. Our slim one-run lead, coupled with two outs and runners on base, ratcheted up the tension significantly. Feeling the weight of the moment and knowing a single error could cost us the victory, I took a deliberate, deep breath. I managed to tune out all the surrounding noise, locking my attention solely on the catcher's mitt. This unwavering concentration paid off, allowing me to deliver a perfect strike to secure the final out and win the game. Summary: Today in class we went over the poem "Out, Out" by Robert Frost and annotated it.  Reflection: I learned more about Robert Frost and got to analyze one of his pieces of poetry that I had never read before.

Write about what you did over the Fall Break.

My fall break was all about football and friends! The first weekend, I drove up to Atlanta and met up with some friends I hadn't seen since summer. The main event was going to the Georgia Tech game at Bobby Dodd Stadium, the energy from the crowd was absolutely electric, and it was a blast cheering on the Yellow Jackets together. Besides the game, we spent a lot of time just hanging out, catching up, and grabbing some great food around the city. It was the perfect, much-needed break to relax and make some new memories before heading back to classes. Reflection: Today in class we wrote a 6 panel comic strip using our vocab words. Summary: I learned many new vocab words.

Prompt: How do you find time to enjoy your day, even when you have a lot going on? Write about at least three specific things you do to enjoy small moments throughout your day.

I make a point of finding joy in the small parts of my day, even when things get busy. I always start my morning by listening to music to put me in a good mood. At lunch, I step outside to get some fresh air, even if it's just a short break. Talking and laughing with friends always lifts my spirits later in the day. These quick, good moments keep me positive and make my whole day feel better. Summary: Today I just did my blog posts. Reflection: I was able to get a lot of my blog posts done.
That presentation became an immediate, defining moment of courage. The classroom suddenly felt like a stage, and despite my body's betrayal my hands shaking I forced myself to be the first one to step into the spotlight. Taking a decisive breath, I channeled my fear into focus, trusting the practice I had put in. As the words flowed, my anxiety dissolved, replaced by the surprising realization that my classmates were truly engaged. Walking back to my seat, the lingering fear was overwhelmed by a clear, powerful feeling of pride for confronting and conquering a long-held obstacle Summary: Today we wrote a claim on writable for a short story called Ambush. Reflection: I learned about this guys war experience.

Write about a dream that felt real.

The dream began with a wash of peaceful, unnatural brightness as I walked outside, only to be momentarily swept up in the genuine joy of reconnecting with an old friend. The vivid, tactile sensation of our hug and shared laughter made the reunion feel completely real. That comfort shattered when the sky abruptly turned a frightening dark, signaling an approaching, unknown menace. Waking up in a sudden start, I was left grappling with the unsettling memory, unable to shake the feeling that a major change was looming just outside my conscious awareness. It was a potent reminder of how deeply the subconscious mind can blur the line between fantasy and our everyday reality. Summary: Today we got new vocab words and did a newsela. Reflection: I learned 15 new vocab words.

Write about something you’ve always been curious about.

something ive always been curoius about is what actually happens when we die? Every culture, religion, and philosophy offers a beautifully crafted theory, yet none can provide a definitive, testable answer that satisfies my curiosity. Is it merely the end of consciousness, or is there a transition to an entirely different form of existence or plane of reality? This ultimate unknowability the absolute barrier to personal experience makes it the most profound and genuinely unanswerable question a human can ever contemplate. I often wonder if the answer is something we can't even comprehend in our current state. Summary: Today we wrote our argument paragraph. Reflection: I learned how to effectively create an argumentative paragraph with evidence and counterclaims.

Write about the best gift you have received.

The best gift I have received is my personalized, professional-grade baseball glove. I had been admiring that particular model for a long time, and my parents knew how much the right tool would boost my confidence on the field. For a few months, I used it for almost six or seven hours a day, meticulously oiling and breaking it in until it molded perfectly to my hand. I was able to snag hard-hit balls that I used to miss and finally felt like I had the equipment necessary to play at a high level with my team. I am very appreciative of it because it wasn't just leather; it was a commitment to my passion. I still use it a lot, trusting it every time I step on the field, and I know it will be with me for a long time. Summary: We did a quiz on our vocabulary and learned about formal and informal language. Reflection: I learned when to use formal language and when to use informal language.

Write about a conversation that changed you.

A conversation that changed me happened with my old baseball coach after a particularly rough game where my performance was disappointing. He kept everything unflinchingly honest, telling me I was relying too much on natural talent and not enough on the daily, boring grind of discipline. It was truly eye-opening because nobody had ever talked to me about the mental commitment required to succeed at the collegiate level. I now realize it was the most important conversation I needed to have to fully appreciate the unseen work necessary to truly make it. I'm incredibly appreciative that he was upfront and honest, sacrificing my immediate comfort for my long-term potential. Summary: Today we did a worksheet creating our own claims and opposing claims. We also supported them with evidence and explained it. Reflection: I learned how to pull evidence from a text and connect it to my claim effectively.

Write about something that you believed as a child.

As a kid, I used to think the door handles in our house were the breeding ground for invisible, microscopic monsters. My parents, trying to encourage good habits, joked that if I touched a handle incorrectly with my bare hand, without a napkin shield, the germs would "activate" and cause a horrible, itchy rash on my face. Summary: Today we watched some commercials and analyzed them and did a new vocabulary assignment. Reflection: I learned about how politicians can use Ethos, Pathos, and Logos in their ads to try and convince voters to vote for them.
